Welcome to our family-friendly neighborhood located on the shores of beautiful Lake Zoar. Established in 1929, Shady Rest was originally a summer vacation community for lake enthusiasts. Today, Shady Rest is home to approximately 100 families, most of whom are year-round residents
Our family-friendly community features quiet, tree-lined streets that are ideal for kids to ride bikes, walking your dog, or chatting with neighbors and friends. Community members can enjoy our private lake-side beach and park with pavilion, access the community boat ramp, and join various social events throughout the year.
The Shady Rest Homeowners Association
The Shady Rest Homeowners Association owns and maintains community-owned properties, including the beach and other open areas, for the benefit of dues-paying members. The officers and board members are community homeowners elected by the members of the association. The board also works with the town of Newtown and other agencies to maintain roads and other infrastructure in the community. Annual dues cover road repairs, maintenance of community property, and liability insurance for shared spaces. Members in good standing can enjoy the community’s amenities, which include access to our private lake-side beach, boat ramp, park with pavilion, and various social events throughout the year.
